Man Utd Transfer News Today: First signing ready as Enzo Fernandez call changes everything
All the latest Man Utd transfer news in one place, including updates on Ederson, Enzo Fernandez and Elliot Anderson.
Ederson signing close
Man Utd are on the verge of completing the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, according to Sky Sports.
Personal terms are already in place with the Brazil international, and discussions between the two clubs have entered the final stages. The fee is expected to be an initial amount of €40.5 million guaranteed, plus €3.5m in add-ons.
Ederson is set to become the first signing of the Michael Carrick era and the first of at least two midfield arrivals. He will nominally replace Casemiro, who is leaving on a free transfer.
Fernandez won't give Man Utd a shot at Anderson
Recent reports of Man City's interest in Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez will have given Man Utd hope of landing Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson, but this hope has already been crushed.
Numerous outlets, including Sky Sports, have clearly been briefed by Man City that the links with Fernandez are wide of the mark. Despite the impending arrival of Enzo Maresca, City claim that they have no interest in Fernandez.
Instead, Anderson remains the club's top priority, with talks in full swing for several weeks already. The Forest midfielder is said to be leaning towards a move to the Etihad, leaving Man Utd chasing shadows.
Jacquet reveals Man Utd snub
Stade Rennais centre-back Jeremy Jacquet has revealed that Man Utd were one of the clubs he turned down in the January transfer window.
The Frenchman looked poised to join Chelsea over the winter, with the Blues trying to agree a deal with Rennes for several weeks, but he ultimately opted to move to Liverpool instead.
Man Utd were also linked with Jacquet at the time, and he has now confirmed to Ouest-France that he turned down a move to Old Trafford. "I heard [Liverpool] arrived at the last minute, but that's not true. I'd been talking to them for a long time," he said.
"There were other clubs too," Jacquet added. When asked about United, he said: "For example, but also other clubs that haven't been mentioned. It didn't happen in a week."
All change for Rashford
Marcus Rashford's future has taken a fresh twist following the news that Barcelona are now pushing hard for the signing of Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon.
The Man Utd loanee is likely to be forced to return to Old Trafford, with Barcelona instead looking to wrap up a deal for Gordon. An €80m package was agreed on Wednesday evening.
Despite the hefty outlay, Barcelona believe that the final impact will be similar to signing Rashford for €30m. Gordon will get a lower salary and a lengthier contract to amortise his fee over a longer period of time.
