Chelsea’s Liam Rosenior sack stance after Man City capitulation
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior found the heat turned up on him on Sunday following the Blues’ 3-0 Premier League loss to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
Although the West London side made it to the break scoreless, the game quickly slipped away from them as goals from Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi and Jeremy Doku took the guests to within six points of Arsenal at the top of the table.
Chelsea, on the other hand, lie in sixth and face a major battle simply to qualify for European football again next season after losing their fourth league game in their last five.
Will Chelsea sack Rosenior?
Rumours are circulating that Rosenior will be replaced at Chelsea if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League next season, but Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on what the Blues are thinking with regard to their manager.
“Chelsea are still backing Liam Rosenior, this is the message from the club after the match today,” the transfer insider reports on his YouTube channel.
“They don’t forget he arrived in January and had no pre-season. It will be important to understand how Chelsea end the rest of the season, its results-based industry, but at the moment as of now, the message is ‘we want to trust this manager’.”
Rosenior’s message to Chelsea fans
In the aftermath of the defeat, Rosenior took responsibility for the loss.
“I’m accountable. It starts on the training pitch, your habits and values. We’ve already spoken about these things,” the Chelsea boss told Sky Sports.
“I can’t say there was a lack of effort, especially in the first half. There was a lack of confidence in the second half, we started losing the ball more easily. We have to improve because at the moment, we’re in a difficult place and have another big game next week.
“Even Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, they had a year to solve things out. I came in January! But I know I need to win now...
“I'm confident with some time we can create something very special here.”

Chelsea fans are growing increasingly frustrated with the situation at the club, with the BlueCo project carrying them no closer to a situation in which they are challenging for the Premier League title.
Indeed, there are plans for a protest against the club’s ownership prior to next weekend’s clash against Manchester United, which promises to be a pivotal encounter for Rosenior in particular.
