Enzo Fernandez wants Real Madrid move after explosive Chelsea interview
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is open to a move to Real Madrid this summer, according to a reliable journalist.
The Argentina international continues to be the subject of intense transfer speculation. Ahead of Chelsea's Champions League first leg with PSG, reports in France emerged that Fernandez could look to leave the Blues if they fail to qualify for next season's edition of the competition.
This has since been backed up by reports from Argentina, and now Fernandez has seemingly confirmed it himself. Speaking after Chelsea's humiliating 3-0 defeat to PSG at Stamford Bridge, the 25-year-old refused to commit his future to the club.
“I don’t know, there are eight games left and then the FA Cup," Fernandez said when asked if he would be at Chelsea next season. "Then there's the World Cup, and then we’ll see."
When quizzed about Fernandez's comments, head coach Liam Rosenior insisted that he had bigger things to worry about than transfer rumours. The season is threatening to get away from a Chelsea side that is still incapable of challenging for major honours.
Fernandez open to LaLiga move
The West London club's inconsistency and failure to be competitive in the Premier League title race and the Champions League is exactly where Fernandez's frustration stems from.
Before Chelsea claimed the Conference League and Club World Cup last year, Fernandez's father sparked rumours about his son's future when he revealed that the player was unhappy with the club's lack of competitiveness.
Fernandez joined Chelsea - for a then-Premier League record €121 million - in 2023 after winning the World Cup with the goal of picking up more major silverware, namely the Champions League and the Premier League.
Last year's titles placated him for a bit - as he himself admitted - but the PSG tie evidenced quite clearly that Chelsea are still nowhere near the top of the European game, despite an eye-watering spend on players since the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital takeover.
As a result, Fernandez is indeed ready to quit the club this summer. According to Ben Jacobs, the Argentine is open to a move to LaLiga, where Real Madrid have been linked with a move for months.
PSG are also said to have retained their long-standing interest in Fernandez. Chelsea, for their part, will not sell the 25-year-old for a book loss, so it would require a sizeable fee to prise him away.
