Man Utd Transfer News Today: Deadline Day deals, Casemiro exit U-turn?
All the latest news from Old Trafford as Manchester United wrap up their transfer window with a flurry of late activity.
Three Deadline Day deals in the pipeline
Man Utd are eyeing up three loan deals that will allow academy players to gain first-team experience elsewhere.
Ethan Wheatley is heading to Bradford City, Jacob Devaney is set to join St Mirren and James Scanlon is destined to join Swindon Town, according to Manchester World.
While there is movement expected in the case of promising midfielder Sekou Kone, who is expected to move to Lausanne, the Swiss window remains open for two more weeks, so there is no rush to conclude a deal.
Casemiro plan confirmed
Casemiro’s stellar recent form has led to suggestions that Man Utd may try to talk the Brazil international from leaving at the end of his contract in the summer – a plan he has already announced.
Sky Sports believes that this will not be the case, with Rob Dorsett declaring: “Manchester United are determined not to have a short-term approach to signings and managers. That's what has got them into trouble in the past. It's left a lot of big-name players on big wages who are not part of the plans right now.
“Casemiro is flying right now. Player of the match against Fulham yesterday. I can understand why a lot of fans are saying: 'We're trying to find a midfielder but willing to let Casemiro go?'
“He turns 34 later this month, he's one of the biggest earners at the club, £325k a week, and Man Utd know that can't go on forever. He's play out of his skin right now but they have to have a longer-term plan.
“Casemiro will leave in the summer, they have done the big goodbye video.”
Malacia staying at Old Trafford
Man Utd misfit Tyrell Malacia will not be leaving the club this month, despite the Netherlands international left-back having played only two minutes of top-team football this season.
Rich Fay says: “United expect Tyrell Malacia to remain part of their first-team squad for the remainder of the season. Dorgu injury changed his situation after an exit had been planned.
“Club sources deny that they had actually agreed a transfer or that exit was as advanced as suggested.”
Man Utd’s gamble
Ineos are ready to take a gamble on the final day of the transfer window by not signing any additional cover in the midfield, where United look short on numbers.
With Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo in strong form, there appears to be no holes in Michael Carrick’s starting XI, but leaving the Red Devils short on cover is a risk that could backfire horrible.
