Man City tell Real Madrid Erling Haaland's price - and it's not a world record
Manchester City have named their price for Erling Haaland, telling Real Madrid that if they want to sign the Norway international striker, they will have to break their club record in order to do so.
Amid the chaos at the Bernabeu, Los Blancos are seeking to win fans over by making a big-name signing. Haaland has been earmarked as that marquee addition to the squad for the summer of 2026, according to reports.
The striker still has eight-and-a-half years left on his deal with Manchester City, but Sky Sport Deutschland claimed that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez remains in contact with Rafaela Pimenta, Haaland’s agent, over a deal.
Erling Haaland: Man City’s asking price
Signing Haaland, of course, promises to be no easy task, with Man City unwilling to be easily parted from the striker, who has 26 goals in 31 games this season alone.
The Premier League giants, Fichajes claims, will not allow him to depart for less than €200 million – a figure below the player’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €159m but below the €222m world-record fee that PSG paid Barcelona to sign Neymar in the summer of 2017.
Total package worth €600m
The overall cost of the deal for Real Madrid, meanwhile, promises to be eye-watering, even if they do not break the world transfer record.
Haaland’s contract is extremely costly. Even if he has not hit the €1 billion figure that Pimenta once predicted he would be worth, he is still paid an extravagant wage that is reckoned to be close to €500m over the course of his 10-year deal.
Real Madrid would have to commit to around €400m in wages for Haaland if they were to match the player’s current wage.
Added to the transfer fee, Los Blancos would be committing €600m towards the former Borussia Dortmund striker in what would be a historic deal.
Haaland to Real Madrid: A matter of time?
Although it would be surprising to see City agree to sell Haaland, there are regular rumours that he is unsettled at the Premier League giants. His love of Spain is also well known, and he has previously intimated that he wants to play in La Liga one day – a factor that no doubt fuels the ongoing speculation.
Haaland moving to Real Madrid at some point in the future, then, would come as little surprise, but it would still be classed as a big shock if that deal were to arrive in 2026.
