Glasner to hold contract talks with Crystal Palace amid Man Utd interest
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is regarded as one of the top candidates to become the next Manchester United boss, and he has spoken out over his future.
Man Utd are poised to name Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as an interim manager at Old Trafford until the end of the season after Ruben Amorim was sacked on Monday. At that point, the Red Devils are expected to move for a more experienced permanent replacement.
Glasner is regarded as one of those in the running for the post, with the Palace boss being out of contract at the end of the season an additional boost to the Old Trafford side given he will be available for free.
The Selhurst Park side are eager to tie down their boss, who led them to the FA Cup last season and has them 14th in the Premier League this term.
Glasner is not ruling out an extension at Palace, which would likely rule out a move to United.
He has confirmed that he will hold talks with the bosses of the South London side next week.
“Yes, definitely. We'll definitely talk more. We'll definitely find time to talk about my personal situation and then we'll find a final solution,” he told Sky Sports.
Glasner has expressed unhappiness with Palace
Man Utd’s interest in Glasner is likely to tempt the 51-year-old manager, who had previously expressed his frustration with having his hands tied by Palace in the transfer market.
“If you play European football for the first time in your history, you should invest and not save,” Glasner complained in November.
“I think January is too late to sign players. We will have played more than 50 percent of our games.
“Everything was pretty clear and I didn't say anything but today I think it is also time to speak about it that we missed the chance to play an even better season in the summer.”
Glasner has subsequently backtracked on this criticism, claiming that he “underestimated” how many players he would need this season.
Palace have already recruited Tottenham attacker Brennan Johnson from Tottenham in January for €40 million, but whether this will be enough ambition to keep Glasner at the club remains to be seen.
