Fernandez’s current contract with Liam Rosenior’s side isn’t due to expire until 2032, but he is open to leaving the club this year and TEAMtalk claim that Chelsea will consider a sale if they receive a suitable offer.

Real Madrid are also interested in signing the 24-year-old and Los Blancos have reportedly received encouragement that a deal will be possible this summer.

Initial talks have taken place via intermediaries, although the Spanish giants will likely be required to fork out a fee that exceeds the €121 million Chelsea paid to sign him in January 2023.

Enzo Fernandez hint

Speaking to reporters after Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Brentford on Saturday afternoon, Liam Rosenior all but confirmed that he doesn’t want Fernandez to complete a transfer away from Stamford Bridge.

“I'm so impressed,” the Blues head coach admitted during his post-match press conference.

“I knew what an outstanding player he was. I told him I was actually at the World Cup final when he played. It's not until you see a player up close and you get to know him and what he's about.

“I have to say he's a winner. The way he trains, the reason he plays so well is he trains 100%. I've enjoyed working with him. It's his birthday today, so I told him he should go to a steakhouse and enjoy some Argentinian steak. But no, he's a magnificent player.

“More importantly, he's a fantastic character and I love having him in this team.”

Despite Rosenior’s comments, Fernandez is expected to be at the heart of a major transfer battle this summer amid significant speculation that his Chelsea career could be set to end in 2026.
