Andy Robertson tipped to join Celtic and reject Tottenham
Liverpool star Andy Robertson will reject a move to Tottenham and instead return to Celtic, according to one transfer insider.
Robertson has dropped behind Milos Kerkez in the Anfield pecking order this season, and with just six months left on his contract with the Premier League champions appears destined for a change of scene.
Spurs are ready to launch a bid for the 31-year-old for a January move, yet Celtic have been repeatedly linked with the signing of the former Dundee United player on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Robertson has been tipped to reject the opportunity to move to the London side and instead depart the Premier League.
“I wouldn’t expect him to stay in the Premier League, I think he will feel he’s achieved everything he can with Liverpool. Now it’s time for a new challenge,” former Man Utd chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider.
“It happens quite often when a player has been at one club for so long, playing for another team in the same league feels strange so they look elsewhere.
“I could see him making the return to Scotland with Celtic. They won’t be the only ones interested though and they’ll probably have to battle with European clubs if they want to bring him in.”
Celtic are a perfect fit for Robertson
Celtic are seen as an excellent fit for Robertson by data analytics experts SciSports.
The Glasgow club can offer the Liverpool star playing time in a style and formation that suits him almost perfectly. The only trade-off comes in terms of his development, but at this late stage of his career, that is unlikely to be such a priority for the Scotland star.
A Celtic supporter as a boy and a former academy player at the Parkhead club, Robertson’s move back to Scotland makes a lot of sense.
