Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have sold part of Wrexham to investment firm Apollo Sports Capital.

The American asset management firm have acquired a minority stake in the Championship side, with the Hollywood stars retaining majority ownership.

Apollo Sports Capital recently purchased a majority share in Spanish giants, Atletico Madrid.

Apollo is led by real estate investor Al Tylis, who co-owns Mexican side Club Necaxa and Colombian club La Equidad with Reynolds, Mac and fellow Hollywood star Eva Longoria. Tylis has also invested in pickleball and esports.

Over the summer, Apollo provided over $100 million in "high-yield debt financing" to Nottingham Forest, majority owned by eccentric Greek shipping magnate Evangelos Marinakis.

At the time, Private Equity Wire noted that Apollo's loan to Forest "highlights private capital’s growing role in European football finance, with firms like Apollo and Ares stepping in where banks have retreated."

Before Apollo got involved with Wrexham, Reynolds and Mac owned 85% of the club. Apollo's investment has apparently been put aside to redevelop the Racecourse Ground which is set to be used as a venue for the 2035 Women's World Cup.

Apollo’s Lee Solomon said that “Wrexham is on an incredible journey,” adding that “we are thrilled to be a part of it and to support the Club, the Wrexham community and Rob and Ryan.

“This is a multi-faceted investment where Apollo Sports Capital can provide long-term, patient capital to help Wrexham reach its goals.”

Under the ownership of Reynolds and Mac, Wrexham have enjoyed three consecutive promotions, with the ultimate goal to reach the Premier League and, ambitiously, the Champions League.

Following the Apollo announcement, the pair said in a statement:

"The dream has always been to take this club to the Premier League while staying true to the town."

“Growth like that takes world-class partners who share our vision and ambition, and Apollo absolutely does. We have known Al Tylis, the chief of Apollo Sports Capital, for many years and are thrilled to now have ASC join the Wrexham family as we take the next step forward together.”

Ryan Reynolds seeking transfer advice from Man City

It has been reported that Reynolds has personally reached out Manchester City officials for transfer strategy advice, particularly on scouting.

A source has told CEO Today of Reynolds: “Ryan is patient, but he’s also a perfectionist. He understands investment cycles - he built companies that way - but football is a different world. You can’t script form, luck, or goals.

“Reynolds, ever the networker, has reached out to contacts within Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City setup for advice on scouting and analytics.”

The report states Wrexham have “evolved into one of the most fascinating business experiments in sport - a masterclass in how storytelling and finance can collide, sometimes uncomfortably."
