Thiago Silva reveals desire to become Chelsea manager
Chelsea fans may not have seen the last of Thiago Silva at Stamford Bridge, with the Brazil international defender admitted that he wants to return to the London side.
Although he joined the Blues late in his career on a free transfer from PSG, Thiago Silva established himself as a fan favourite with the Premier League giants and would go on to play 155 times for them.
Now turning out for Fluminense in his homeland, the 41-year-old has admitted that he would one day love to return to Chelsea in a coaching capacity.
“When I become a coach, I’ve set myself a goal: to coach every team I’ve ever played for. Maybe it will never happen, but I’ve set that goal in my mind,” he told L’Equipe. “Before thinking of all that, I want to finish my playing career properly.”
Chelsea fans could be in for a treat if and when he does return, with the defender planning to draw upon the influence of Champions League winner Luis Enrique.
“His work will inspire me,” he said. “I’ll take it in. I admire what he’s doing at PSG, but I’m not shutting out any other ideas.
“It’s a joy to watch this team. Everything seems automatic. They all know what the others are going to do. I’ve already spoken to Marquinhos to try and understand how they’ve put this puzzle together and I’ve even asked for some drills – but they can’t give them to me!
“My idea is to approach the game similar to what Pep Guardiola or Thomas Tuchel do. I also like Roberto De Zerbi’s work, even if he’s coach of PSG’s rivals. You have to find your own way to win without losing your playing philosophy.”
Thiago Silva still targeting World Cup glory with Brazil
Thiago Silva is under contract with Fluminense until June 2026, but he is still hoping for one last adventure before he hangs up his boots – playing for Brazil at the World Cup.
“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t in my plans,” he admitted. “But I haven’t discussed it with Carlo Ancelotti.
“I haven’t been called up since the 2022 World Cup, but I thought it wasn’t impossible. That’s why I signed a two-year contract with Fluminense, with the aim of winning the World Cup. Can you imagine if I finished my career with a World Cup title? That would be the absolute dream and the perfect time to retire.”
Chelsea will, therefore, have to wait for now.
