'He's well off it!' - Gary Neville issues honest Benjamin Sesko transfer verdict
Gary Neville is worried about Benjamin Sesko, remarking that Man Utd's summer signing is currently "well off it".
Sesko disappointed once again on Saturday during Man Utd's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, failing to make much impact.
It was just the latest poor performance from the Slovenian, who has struggled badly at Old Trafford so far.
There were big hopes for Sesko when Man Utd splashed out as much as €85 million to sign the striker from RB Leipzig.
However, he failed to register a goal or assist in his first six games for Man Utd.
It appeared that maybe the tide would turn when he scored back-to-back against Brentford and Sunderland at the end of September and start of October.
But Sesko has since failed to score, managing no goals in his last three matches for United.
In total this season, for club and country, Sesko has a very disappointing two goals and two assists in 15 matches.
And Man Utd legend Gary Neville is worried.
“He’s well off it compared to the other summer signings that Man United made up front in [Matheus] Cunha and [Bryan] Mbeumo," Neville said.
“He looks awkward, he had a couple of really good opportunities in the first half when balls got played over the top and his touch wasn’t quite right.
“For 80 million pound, you can say he’s young, has a lot of potential and is only just settling in, but you still want to see a bit more.”
It is still early days and too soon to write Sesko off but given the sheer number of expensive and big name stars who have flopped at Man Utd in recent years, it is no surprise that fans like Neville are already starting to worry.
Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana and Antony are just three big-money flops who were offloaded this summer after failing to make the grade at Old Trafford.
Sesko emerged as one of Europe's most admired young strikers at Leipzig.
Sesko scored 18 goals in 42 games for his club in 2024-25 and went to Euro 2024 with Slovenia.
He has 16 goals in 45 games for Slovenia.
