As well as Manchester United in football, the Glazer family own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from the National Football League and have done since 1995.

The Glazers purchased Man Utd back in 2005 and they have been at the helm of the Red Devils for the past two decades, despite numerous fan protests against their regime.

Avram and Joel Glazer have been in charge of the Old Trafford outfit since the death of their father Malcolm in 2014, although they sold a minority stake to INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in late 2023.

The NFL Players' Association, a union, recently conducted a survey with regards to working conditions.

One of the questions was with regards to the team's owners and their willingness to invest in facilities. The Buccaneers players gave the Glazers a rating of 6.5 out of 10 which ranked 27 out of the 32 NFL teams.

The report states: "The Tampa Bay Buccaneers ranked 27th, with their highest-rated categories attributed to people rather than physical facilities. When asked what the team does best, players consistently highlighted the support staff and strength coaches, who earned an A grade this year.

"The team improved its treatment of players' families grade from an F to a C-, likely due to the decision to stop charging players for daycare during games.

"However, several areas still need improvement. Players want better food quality and more variety in the cafeteria. Another major concern is locker room cleanliness—44% of players report ongoing plumbing issues, and persistent bad odors remain a problem.

"The Glazer family's average rating for perceived willingness to invest in the facilities is 6.50 out of 10 from the Buccaneers players, a ranking of 27 out of 32 owners in the league.

"The players feel that the Glazer family slightly contributes to a positive team culture, a rank of 27 out of 32.

"The players feel that the Glazer family is somewhat committed to building a competitive team, a rank of 26 of the 32 NFL owners."

Man Utd academy needs improving

Ratcliffe is now in charge of the day-to-day operations at Man Utd and recently complained about the current state of the academy.

He told The Times’ The Business podcast: "The academy has really slipped at Manchester United. You need the academy to be producing talent all the time. It helps you financially. That’s not a light switch. You don’t solve the academy problem overnight. It takes time. We just recruited a new academy director."

While fans naturally assumed he was talking about the lack of players coming through compared to previous decades, the Sun reports that he was actually referring to the academy facilities at Carrington.

Both the women's team and senior men's team have received facility upgrades over the last couple of years, but the academy building has reportedly not been upgraded since 2002.
