Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has responded to rumours that Filip Jorgensen is eager to leave the club during the upcoming January transfer window.

The Denmark international arrived at Stamford Bridge from Villarreal for €24.5 million last summer, however he has been unable to usurp Robert Sanchez as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and he has only made one Premier League appearance so far this season.

It’s understood that Jorgensen wants to leave west London in January in order to improve his game time for the remainder of the season as he eyes a starting spot at the 2026 World Cup, although Chelsea are reluctant to sanction a departure.

The Blues are expected to welcome Mike Penders into the first-team set-up when his loan spell at Strasbourg ends next summer, and reports have suggested they are therefore eager to avoid signing a new goalkeeper in January, which could mean Jorgensen is forced to stay.

When asked about the 23-year-old’s reported desire to leave Chelsea ahead of his side’s clash against Burnley on Saturday, Maresca told reporters: “I spoke with Filip at the beginning of the season and I didn't speak with Filip in the last days about that.

“I think all the players that they don't play a lot or they don't use to play, they would like to get more minutes, more games, it's completely normal. But I didn't speak with Filip.”

Enzo Maresca comments on Axel Disasi and Raheem Sterling

Maresca was also asked about the futures of Axel Disasi and Raheem Sterling, who have both been forced to train away from the senior squad this season after failing to secure exits from Stamford Bridge over the summer.

However, he remained fairly coy when discussing the pair.

“I said many times that Axel and Raheem [Sterling] are Chelsea players. Axel is helping the second team, he's helping the younger players. During the international break we had just five, six players here, so we need some second team players. And Axel was part of some sessions with second team players, but I think it was just one session with us.

“At the moment he's helping the second team, he's working with the second team and he's there with the second team.

“Raheem again, he's a Chelsea player and he's in the same situation.”
