Moises Caicedo insists that he wants to stay at Chelsea for 'a long time' and regularly challenge for trophies amid frequent links to Real Madrid.

The Ecuador international has become one of the best midfielders in the world since snubbing Arsenal and Liverpool to join the Blues in a then-British record €116 million deal in 2023.

Although he endured a slow start to life at Stamford Bridge after not having a proper pre-season due to his transfer saga, Caicedo is now arguably the most important player in Enzo Maresca's side.

The 24-year-old provides the bite that Chelsea's flair players lack, but the former Brighton man is so much more than just a destroyer. None other than Claude Makelele believes that his 'Makelele role' should now be termed 'Caicedo role.'

Naturally, given his impressive form, Caicedo has received interest from potential suitors. Saudi giants Al-Nassr briefly explored a move for him in the summer, only to be told by Chelsea that he is not for sale.

Caicedo wants to stay at Chelsea for 'a long time'

Real Madrid, too, have been repeatedly linked with the Ecuador star and his midfield partner Enzo Fernandez in the Spanish press. However, given the cost involved, it seems incredibly unlikely that a move will materialise anytime soon.

On the contrary, Chelsea want to reward the 24-year-old for his stunning development with a new contract, or perhaps they have already done so in secret, as some reports claim.

The player himself is not thinking about leaving at all. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Caicedo said: "I would like to be here for a long time. I want to keep playing like this but get even better. I want more trophies with this club."

The midfielder also added that he never doubted that he would end up at Chelsea, despite the interest from Arsenal and Liverpool in 2023. "I waited until Chelsea came for me. People laughed. They said I chose the wrong place, but sometimes you need time to adapt to a big team.

"I needed that. I want to give everything to this club because they didn't doubt me. I chose Chelsea because they have ambitions. I want to win trophies, more trophies with this club."
