Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim’s vulnerable position at the helm of the Old Trafford club has started to attract interest from elsewhere, with one top Premier League boss said to be targeting a move to the Red Devils.

Amorim’s position at United is coming under scrutiny on an almost weekly basis. After missing European football last season, the Old Trafford side find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League table and out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Grimsby Town.

Although the hierarchy at Man Utd continues to insist that the Portuguese is their man, actively ‘fearing’ that he resigns, other bosses are starting to jostle for position to be in the frame if and when he leaves.

Glasner wants Man Utd job – Indykaila

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is one of those who has been mentioned alongside the likes of Gareth Southgate as a potential candidate to replace Amorim, and according to in-the-know X account Indykaila, he is working himself into a position to take the job.

It reports: “Oliver Glasner has turned down the latest contract offer from Crystal Palace. We understand he’s got his eyes set on the Man Utd job.

“For Glasner to stay at Palace, they’d need to throw an extraordinary contract his way, complete with some serious release clauses.

“It’s clear he’s aiming higher. And let’s be real, once Ruben Amorim gets sacked, it’s going to be fireworks at Old Trafford.

“The managerial landscape is shifting, and Glasner will be right in the mix for the hot seat at Manchester United.”

The Austrian’s stock is currently at an all-time high. After leading Crystal Palace to the FA Cup last season, he has steered the South London club to a 12-match undefeated run in the Premier League – currently the longest in Europe’s big-five leagues – and they are 18 without loss in all competitions, equalling the club record.

Playing a bold brand of football, Glasner led his side to a 2-1 win over champions Liverpool at Selhurst Park last week.

Man Utd face Sunderland in the Premier League at Old Trafford this weekend, and another poor result will make it hard for Amorim to see through the international break.

While no formal steps might have been taken to replace Amorim, the groundwork must be getting laid for potential replacements, of which Glasner must be a high candidate.
