Man City block Real Madrid overtures for star player with mega contract offer
Manchester City are ready to end speculation that they could lose Ballon d’Or winner Rodri to Real Madrid by making the Spain international midfielder an offer he cannot refuse.
Rodri was the bedrock of Pep Guardiola’s side as they claimed the 2023/24 Premier League season and also underpinned Spain’s Euro 2024 victory before being struck down by an ACL injury shortly afterwards.
Despite the 29-year-old not returning to his best level since making his return to action in May, he remains a highly coveted star and a player that Real Madrid are regularly linked with a move to sign. Reports suggest Los Blancos could table a €150 million bid for the former Atletico Madrid ace, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €90.5m, despite his recent injury struggles.
Out of contract in 2027, Rodri will have a major decision to make as he considers his future if no new deal is agreed with City before the end of the season.
Guardiola’s side, though, are looking to lock down the midfielder and, according to TBR Football, are set to make him a decisive offer.
Man City confident of new Rodri contract
It is claimed there is a “willingness and a confidence” that Rodri will sign a new deal.
Transfer expert Graham Bailey said: “City are now working on Rodri’s new deal – he is back from injury and things are progressing, I am told.
“Rodri is a huge piece in the City jigsaw, as they want the spine of the team tied down. Donnarumma came in on a long-term deal, Dias and Haaland re-signed, and now they are confident Rodri will follow.
“Viana has his plans and things are going well. If City can tie down Rodri and Phil Foden in the coming weeks, they can then concentrate on improvements – but overall, they are very happy with how their squad looks.”
Haaland already locked down
Man City’s offer has been long in the making. They were ready to commit to Rodri even after he suffered his serious injury in September 2025 but the player simply wanted to focus on regaining his fitness.
The Etihad side have been working on many new deals in recent months, with Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias, Savinho and Rico Lewis among the players they have tied to contract extensions.
Now there is optimism among those at Man City that Rodri will be next.
