Such a move would break their current most expensive transfer for the signing of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund for 127m in 2023.

And Man City fear that Madrid could be successful with a move for Rodri.

Rodri to Real Madrid?

Rodri's contract at City expires in 2027 so if he is not tied down to a new contract soon then the club will be in a tricky position ahead of the final year of his contract.

The Star reports that Rodri is tempted by a move top Madrid, especially as there is a chance Pep Guardiola could leave at the end of the current season.

City plan to open contract talks soon with a big salary increase and hope he will finish his career with the club.

The 29-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Madrid last year before he tore his ACL that kept him out for most of last season.

Before that injury, Rodri established himself as not only the best central midfielder in the world but also the best player on the planet.

He won the Ballon d'Or in 2024 after helping Spain to Euro 2024 glory.

He joined Man City from Atletico Madrid in 2019 and has gone on to make over 250 appearances.

Rodri has won 11 trophies for Man City, including four Premier League titles and a Champions League.

He scored the winner in the 2023 Champions League final win over Inter Milan.
