Former Manchester United player Demetri Mitchell has admitted to using AI tool ChatGPT to negotiate a contract with his current club.

Mitchell came through the youth ranks at Old Trafford and made his professional debut for the club in May of 2017, starting at left-back in a Premier League victory against Crystal Palace.

That would prove to be his only appearance for the Red Devils.

He twice went on loan to Hearts before eventually leaving Man Utd for Blackpool on a free transfer. Spells at Hibernian, Exeter and then eventually Leyton Orient followed.

It was ahead of that switch to Leyton Orient that he decided to use ChatGPT as a de-facto agent, guiding him through the contract negotiating process to include factors such as moving to London.

"They [Leyton Orient] sent me an offer and then I started using ChatGPT, asking them how to negotiate the deal and what to say in it," he explained on the From My Left podcast.

"I asked; 'This is what I was on last season. I am moving to London, [so what is] the cost of living. My missus is going to move down with me with my little one'.

"I did think I was worth a little bit more as well, but you don't want to be like; 'Oh yeah, I think I should be earning X amount'. And then also because I didn't use an agent, I get that as a signing-on fee."

Mitchell subsequently shared a video of the podcast on his socials with the caption: "ChatGPT has been my best agent to date. Agent fees are 5 per cent. ChatGPT £15 [per] month for premium."

The 28-year-old has made nine appearances for Leyton Orient in League One so far this season.
