Newcastle fans have, as expected, reacted furiously after Alexander Isak completed his controversial move to Liverpool on Deadline Day.

The Reds officially completed the signing of the Newcastle United striker for a Premier League record transfer fee of $169 million.

This completed one of the longest transfer sagas of recent years with Newcastle fighting tooth and nail to keep Isak at St James' Park.

The behaviour of Isak was called into question after he publicly demanded a move and was effectively exiled from the club in recent weeks.

Ultimately, Isak got his way and made the move to Anfield.

Unsurprisingly, news of the move did not go down well with many Newcastle fans.

Supporters put up a banner outside St James' Park branding Isak a "rat".

It was pointed out by many on social media, though, that new Newcastle signing Yoanne Wissa effectively behaved in the same way as Isak in order to get his move from Brentford.

At $169m, Isak is the most expensive Premier League transfer in history.

Liverpool had one bid for the 25-year-old Sweden striker knocked back earlier in the window, but made one big push to get him on Deadline Day.

Isak asked to leave Newcastle after contract renewal talks collapsed - as the club had been unwilling to meet his $400,000 a week wage demands.

He was exiled since during pre-season and had not played any games for Newcastle this campaign.

Isak has emerged as one of the best strikers in European football over the past couple of seasons.

He joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for $85m in 2022.

The 25-year-old has gone on to score 62 goals in 109 games for Newcastle.
