Liverpool ROCKED by Rio Ngumoha exit threat as Real Madrid sniff around wonderkid
Real Madrid are monitoring the progress of Liverpool wonderkid Rio Ngumoha ahead of a possible bid next summer, according to reports in Spain.
The 17-year-old is rated as one of the best young talents in English football and his stock is at an all-time high following his last-minute winner against Newcastle United in late August.
Ngumoha enjoyed a fantastic pre-season with the senior squad at Anfield and he became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer when he netted on his Premier League debut to secure a 3-2 win over Newcastle just days before his 17th birthday.
He has also been included in Liverpool’s Champions League squad ahead of Federico Chiesa and Arne Slot is expected to provide the teenager with multiple first-team opportunities throughout the season.
However, Liverpool could face a battle to retain the ex-Chelsea academy starlet next summer as Real Madrid are actively monitoring his development.
That is according to Spanish publication Defensa Central, who claim that Ngumoha has been identified as a key target by Los Blancos, with club president Florentino Perez “amazed” by his talent.
Ngumoha is set to sign his first professional contract at Liverpool in the coming weeks and it’s expected the deal will run until 2028, meaning Real Madrid will be required to pay a transfer fee if they want to sign him next summer.
The Spanish giants are keeping close tabs on the 17-year-old and they are reportedly ready to launch a pursuit as they look to secure his signature before he establishes himself as a regular in the starting XI at Anfield.
Chelsea at war with Liverpool over Rio Ngumoha
Chelsea remain at war with Liverpool over the compensation fee they are owed for Ngumoha, with the teenager having left west London to join the Reds in 2024.
A final decision is expected to be made by a Premier League panel shortly, although a resolution hasn’t yet been announced, despite the fact Ngumoha has now been at Liverpool for over a year.
