EXCLUSIVE: Bukayo Saka in line for hefty Arsenal pay rise as new contract edges closer
Arsenal are increasingly confident that Bukayo Saka will sign a new long-term contract at the club before Christmas, sources have informed FootballTransfers.
Saka, 24, has less than two years remaining on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, but we understand that talks over a new contract are ongoing.
Negotiations with the England international are believed to be progressing well and he is expected to follow in William Saliba’s footsteps by signing a new five-year contract with the north London giants.
Tying Saka down to fresh terms is seen as a priority by the Arsenal hierarchy, including Mikel Arteta, and FootballTransfers has been told that an agreement is likely to be finalised before Christmas.
The 24-year-old is expected to receive a substantial wage increase when he signs his proposed new contract and sources have indicated that Saka’s salary could reach around £250,000 per week - making him one of the club’s highest earners.
However, this figure still falls short of the £280,000 weekly package that Kai Havertz is understood to earn. Insiders suggest this discrepancy is expected to form a key part of discussions over the terms of Saka’s renewal.
The England superstar has racked up 267 first-team appearances for the Gunners since his debut in 2018, scoring 71 goals, and he remains an integral member of Arteta’s project at the Emirates Stadium.
As a result, Arsenal are determined to agree a new deal with the 24-year-old and we understand that a contract extension will be finalised shortly, with Saka eager to continue his career with the north London outfit.
Confirmed: Mikel Arteta wants Bukayo Saka to extend Arsenal deal
When asked if he expects Saka to sign a new contract ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash versus Newcastle United on 28 September, Arteta admitted: “I would love that.
“From everything that I know, he is a player that is extremely happy, and proud to have the role that he has at the football club.
“Things will develop in a natural way, like they always do, and everyone knows how important Bukayo is for us. Hopefully we can do it.”
