Chelsea defender Axel Disasi has revealed that he 'pushed until the last minute' to join Monaco this summer.

The France international went from key player at Stamford Bridge under Mauricio Pochettino to surplus to requirements under Enzo Maresca over the course of last summer.

After being relegated to a member of Chelsea's Conference League and domestic cup 'B-Team,' Disasi departed in January to join Aston Villa on loan. However, his move was not made permanent this summer.

To force him to leave the club, Disasi was put in the Blues' 'Bomb Squad' and made to train in archaic facilities away from the first team with the rest of the club's unwanted players.

Despite interest from several sides around England and Europe, no move materialised. A late-window return to Monaco collapsed when it emerged that the Ligue 1 side could only offer a loan deal, which Chelsea were unable to accept after already using up all of their permitted loan spots.

Disasi: I pushed until the last minute to leave

Speaking to Le Media Carre, the 27-year-old has now opened up on his summer ordeal, revealing that he received enquiries from Bournemouth and West Ham and that he desperately pushed to return to Monaco.

“In the period between the approaches from Bournemouth and West Ham, Monaco arrived, and that hit me emotionally," Disasi said. "I had three incredible years at Monaco.

"When they came in, all the memories came flooding back. Monaco is home. I hoped that Chelsea would find a solution to allow me to leave on loan. I pushed until the last minute to go to Monaco!”

Disasi is now stuck on the books at Chelsea, although some transfer windows remain open. Recent reports have suggested that he would favour a late move to Turkey over Saudi Arabia, but so far, little has happened on that front.
