Arsenal prepare £65m bids in La Liga double swoop
Arsenal continue to show ambition in the transfer market and are ready to splash out €75 million (£65.45m) on two La Liga talents, with Mikel Arteta’s side in the process of preparing the bids.
The Gunners had a net spend greater than any other club in the summer but, according to Fichajes, this will not stop them going back into the market and raiding two Spanish clubs for promising talents.
Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume, 23, and winger Takefusa Kubo, 24, of Real Sociedad are the names being targeted by Arsenal, according to the Spanish source.
Neither of these links are new. FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that Agoume is a player of interest to the North London side as they sought a replacement for Thomas Partey. The Sevilla star has also been associated with a move to Manchester United in recent months.
Similarly, Kubo has become increasingly linked with the Gunners. The 24-year-old, whom Real Madrid still possess 50% of the economic rights to, has been linked with a “surprise” move to Arsenal.
The Japan star has more regularly been associated with Liverpool in recent times, where he has been touted as a potential heir to Mohamed Salah. He is unsettled in San Sebastian following an inconsistent start to the season, both on a personal and club basis.
Arsenal to sign Agoume and Kubo?
While Arsenal may well be monitoring both players, it is unlikely that Arteta will be rushing to add either to his squad, given the current state of play.
In the heart of the midfield, where Agoume operates, he already has Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Christian Norgaard and Declan Rice competing in the central areas, while it is only a matter of time before Max Dowman forces himself seriously into the equation, too.
Agoume has a relatively modest €30m (£26.18m) price tag on his head, though. This suggests he could arrive as a squad player if the situation develops favourably for him.
Change is likelier on the wings, where there is long-term uncertainty over the future of both Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli. Should one or both depart, that could open the door for Kubo.
The Japan international has a €60m (£52.36m) release clause but Arsenal want to pay €45m (£39.27m) for the promising wideman.
