Isak receives home visit from Newcastle owners to stop Liverpool move
Newcastle director Jamie Reuben and a PIF delegation visited Alexander Isak at his home before the Premier League match against Liverpool in a desperate attempt to prevent his transfer to Anfield.
The Daily Mail reports that Reuben Newcastle director Jacobo Solis met Isak at his home ahead of Monday night’s Premier League home clash against Liverpool, the team the striker wants to join.
The Mail reports that a new bumper contract was promised to Isak if he commits to stay.
Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan was present during Newcastle’s 3-2 defeat to Liverpool but was not part of the Isak meeting.
Al-Rumayyan wants Isak to be reintegrated into the Newcastle squad, though.
Isak to join Liverpool?
Isak has, of course, captured the headlines for several weeks as his battle with Newcastle to allow him to leave for Liverpool drags on.
The Reds have had one bid for the 25-year-old Sweden striker knocked back already, but there is a sense that they will make at least one more big effort to sign their dream No.9 before the end of Deadline Day.
Isak said on social media last week that he "can't continue" at Newcastle and "change is in the best interests of everyone", accusing the Magpies of breaking promises.
The 25-year-old has been widely reported to already have an agreement in principle with Liverpool on personal terms.
Newcastle remain firm in their stance, publicly, that he is not for sale.
Newcastle are reportedly demanding as much as $200m to sell the player.
Isak asked to leave Newcastle after contract renewal talks collapsed - as the club have been unwilling until now to meet his €350,000 a week wage demands.
Isak has emerged as one of the best strikers in European football over the past couple of seasons.
He joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for $85m in 2022.
The 25-year-old has gone on to score 62 goals in 109 games for Newcastle.
