Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Salford City forward Will Wright after hijacking Liverpool’s proposed move for the teenager.

Wright, 17, has been heavily linked with Liverpool in recent weeks and he was expected to complete a move to the Anfield outfit this summer.

However, Arsenal have hijacked the deal and they have now reached an agreement to sign the Salford star, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer news expert posted on X: “Arsenal have agreed [a] deal to sign 17 year old talented striker Will Wright, documents being prepared. Arsenal won the race despite interest from several clubs.”

Wright scored over 40 goals for Salford’s academy sides last season, while he made four first-team appearances for the club, with his senior debut coming against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

The Daily Mail have revealed that Arsenal will pay a fee of £200,000 to sign the 17-year-old, having sent scouts to watch him in action in a pre-season friendly against York City last week.

Wright scored his fourth goal in three pre-season fixtures during the match and Arsenal have subsequently decided to make him the second-most expensive player to ever leave Salford - behind Brandon Thomas-Asante.

Liverpool were considered to be the frontrunners to sign Wright this summer, but Arne Slot’s side opted to withdraw from contention to sign the young forward after learning of Arsenal’s interest, according to The Athletic.

Arsenal’s summer transfers

In addition to agreeing a deal for Wright, Arsenal have also completed a number of first-team signings so far this summer.

Arteta’s squad has been bolstered by the additions of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi, while the Gunners are on the verge of signing Chelsea winger Noni Madueke, Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera and Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have sanctioned the departures of Nuno Tavares, Marquinhos, Kieran Tierney, Jorginho, Thomas Partey and Takehiro Tomiyasu as they undergo a major squad overhaul in a bid to end their five-year trophy drought.
