Viktor Gyokeres twist: Arsenal make shock decision as Romano CONFIRMS transfer desire

Arsenal have “frozen” their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres due to Sporting CP’s current asking price, according to sensational reports in Portugal.
Mikel Arteta’s side have identified Gyokeres as a key transfer target amid their push to bring a new striker to the club, however they are yet to finalise a fee for the 27-year-old.
It is understood that Sporting were previously willing to sell Gyokeres for a fee of €70 million this summer, but Frederico Varandas, the club’s president, is reportedly now holding out for a figure closer to his €100 million release clause.
FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that Sporting’s new stance resulted in a furious reaction from Gyokeres’ representatives, with the Sweden star’s camp angered by the ongoing transfer saga and his increased price tag.
Despite tracking Gyokeres for over a year, Arsenal have now “frozen” their pursuit of his signature, as per Record, as they believe the price is now too high. The Gunners have reportedly identified RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins as potentially cheaper alternatives.
Viktor Gyokeres wants to join Arsenal
News of Arsenal’s latest decision on Gyokeres comes after he opted to snub interest from Manchester United in favour of pursuing a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Ruben Amorim was eager to reunite with Gyokeres following a successful stint together at Sporting, but the Sweden international has rejected the chance to join the Red Devils this summer.

This has been confirmed by football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, who posted on X: “Viktor Gyokeres’ priority is to join Arsenal this summer despite calls from Manchester United in the recent weeks.
“Gyokeres always an option amid Sesko talks with no deal sealed so far, Arsenal keep assessing situation. United remain keen but believe deal now unlikely.”
Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Gyokeres this summer, while Atletico Madrid and Juventus are known admirers of the former Coventry City striker too.
Gyokeres has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting CP and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at a career high of €77m.
