Alexander Isak: Premier League record transfer 'distinctly POSSIBLE'

A summer transfer of Newcastle superstar Alexander Isak is 'distinctly possible' if he refuses to extend his contract, according to a report.
The Sweden international is easily one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League, but a transfer has been viewed as highly unlikely for months as Newcastle have absolutely no intention of selling their star striker.
Amid well-documented interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, the Magpies have made it clear that it would require something truly outrageous just to make them engage in talks, with the club bolstered by Champions League qualification and no more grave concerns of financial regulations.
However, over the past week or so, the tone has somewhat shifted. While Newcastle's stance hasn't changed, word coming out of Liverpool has suggested that the Reds could look to test the resolve of the St. James' Park club.
With the Premier League Profitability and Sustainability deadline tonight, 30 June, there are claims that the Reds could put in a bid in July in order to shift the burden on their accounts to the next financial year.
Isak transfer 'distinctly possible'
Liverpool splashed the cash in June, shattering the Premier League record on Florian Wirtz, while also signing Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, all to the tune of €220 million. Yet the Anfield outfit's summer business is far from done.
According to journalist Graeme Bailey, the Reds are indeed determined to land Isak, who is their absolute priority target for the striker position. He claims that there is a feeling that a transfer could become 'distinctly possible' should he turn down Newcastle's contract offer.

As FootballTransfers exclusively reported earlier this year, the Magpies and Isak are set to sit down and discuss fresh terms. However, the 25-year-old wants a release clause to have control over his future as he still harbours ambitions of playing for one of Europe's truly elite clubs, which was recently echoed by Sky Sports' Keith Downie.
We reported at the time that Isak is reluctant to fully commit to Newcastle this early in the year as he wants to see how the summer transfer window transpires. Should he still be on the books come the end of the summer, he is likely to be more open to extending.
Bailey, meanwhile, reports: “Liverpool are not being deterred, we’re not sure quite why that is, but they seem to think there’s a chink of light there. Whilst this new contract hasn’t been signed, that will remain the case.”
“Obviously, the British record has been broken by Liverpool now, and the offer would have to be similar to get Isak out of Newcastle, but it is distinctly possible. I believe a deal could be done at £120-130m, but that would have to be on the back of him rejecting a contract offer."
