Marcus Rashford has dropped a hint on where he sees his future, with the forgotten Manchester United star facing a summer of uncertainty after his loan spell with Aston Villa.

Rashford grabbed four goals and five assists in 17 appearances for Villa across all competitions after joining them in January but a hamstring injury at the end of April cut short his season.

Villa are keen to keep hold of Rashford next season but their current struggles with PSR has meant that a return to the club may prove difficult to facilitate, particularly with United hoping to raise at least €40 million with the 27-year-old’s permanent sale.

Rashford’s availability has led to interest from a number of sides, including Barcelona, whom the England international hinted he would be keen to join and link up with Lamine Yamal during an interview with Spanish YouTuber xBuyer.

And, having featured as a striker regularly at Villa, Rashford revealed he was becoming ‘more natural’ in the role after comparing his playstyle to former Barcelona star Theirry Henry, saying: “[Henry] is comfortable playing off the left side and in the middle. And he is a free-flowing player.

“For me, playing as a number nine is becoming more comfortable, more natural,” Rashford added. “Small things, such as playing back to goal, it’s becoming easier for me. You’re always in front of the goal so you’re always dangerous.

Rashford aiming to defy Amorim with ability as number nine

Despite spending a large portion of his career as a left-winger, Rashford played the majority of his minutes with Villa as a striker, often rotating with Ollie Watkins as Unai Emery’s number nine.

Although he had previously played plenty of minutes for United as a striker, including in Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge during a 1-1 draw against Ipswich, the Red Devils manager admitted his side ‘lost physicality’ with Rashford up front.

“The main thing is that they tried. We lost some balls, we played with Rashford up front and we lost some physicality, some ability to hold the ball,” Amorim said in November.

However, should Rashford move to Barcelona, he would likely be used as a left-winger, although the Catalan side are hoping to seal a deal for Athletic Club’s Nico Williams in that role, which would all but end their interest in the United man this summer.
