After Maignan shock: Man Utd open talks to sign Serie A goalkeeper

Manchester United have opened talks to sign AS Roma shot-stopper Mile Svilar, according to a report.
Serie A goalkeepers are in high demand this summer, and for good reason. Italy's top flight is becoming increasingly known as a hotbed of talent between the sticks.
Prior to conceding five goals in the Champions League final, veteran Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer was enjoying a spectacular season, while Mike Maignan of rivals AC Milan has been one of the most highly-rated keepers in Europe for years.
Earlier on Tuesday, Fabrizio Romano dropped a bombshell piece of news by revealing that Chelsea have opened talks to sign Maignan, viewing him as a market opportunity due to his stalled contract talks with the Rossoneri.
Man Utd are another club that have taken a liking to Serie A goalkeepers. In addition to Maignan, the Red Devils have been keeping tabs on Torino stalwart Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, who had a long-forgotten spell at Old Trafford a decade ago.
Man Utd open Svilar talks
However, it is neither Maignan nor Milinkovic-Savic with whom Man Utd are trying to thrash out a deal now. According to TEAMtalk, the Red Devils have opened talks to sign Roma standout Mile Svilar.
Similarly to Maignan at Milan, Svilar's contract talks with Roma have proved incredibly difficult in recent weeks and months, and he has been the subject of plenty of speculation. Incidentally, he was heavily linked with Chelsea just a few weeks ago.

The Serbia international, who famously made a huge howler against Man Utd in 2017 after which he had to be consoled by Romelu Lukaku, has just been voted Serie A's Goalkeeper of the Year.
The 25-year-old could reportedly cost Man Utd up to €30 million this summer, with the Red Devils keen to sign an upgrade on Andre Onana, who has had some latent interest from Saudi Arabia for the past two years.
