Liverpool have been one of the most active clubs in the transfer market so far this summer, signing Jeremie Frimpong and lining up moves for both Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez.

The move for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Wirtz is set to smash the Reds’ club-record transfer, and while it is considered only a matter of time before these deals are completed, one potential outgoing player finds his move under threat due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) concerns.

Luis Diaz has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, but according to Sport, the chances of the transfer going through lean heavily on the Catalan club complying with La Liga’s economic requirements.

The Colombia winger is top of Barca’s transfer shortlist ahead of Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) and Nico Williams (Athletic Club). Any deal, though, rests on the Blaugrana meeting their FFP obligations.

Sport states: “Before going all out for a player of the Colombian’s stature, a series of conditions related to the FFP that La Liga imposes on salaries must be met. If that happens, the chances will skyrocket.”

Luis Diaz to Barcelona: How much will he cost?

Negotiations between Barcelona and Liverpool over Luiz Dias are unlikely to be straightforward either.

The player’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is €71m – the midway point between the valuations of the two clubs.

According to Sport, the Anfield club are not willing to allow the player to leave for a fee of less than €80 million. On the other hand, Barcelona have drawn a “red line” for the player of €60m, which they consider fair for a player who is 28 years old.

One potential way around this problem is significant bonuses attached to a fixed price.

Luis Diaz, meanwhile, is said to be “delighted” with the prospect of completing a move to Barcelona, who in turn would welcome any gesture of the player to reduce his wages, which would in turn allow them to “push a little” harder over his fee.

The Catalans’ position has been strengthened by Nico Williams making it clear that he wishes to join his “brother” Lamine Yamal at Camp Nou next season.
