Florian Wirtz has been given one week to make a decision on his Bayer Leverkusen future, according to German media.

The 22-year-old has quickly become the protagonist of one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer - and the window hasn't even opened yet. Wirtz is being chased by Bayern, Liverpool, Man City and even Real Madrid.

The Germany international and his family flew to England earlier this week to hold talks with Man City, which prompted Liverpool to also inform Wirtz of their willingness to bid for him should he make himself available.

Amid all of this, Bayern have been desperately scrambling to break Leverkusen's resolve and to agree a deal. However, the Bundesliga runners-up are reluctant to do business with the newly-minted champions and would prefer to sell their superstar to a club outside of Germany.

Wirtz also still has a contract offer from Leverkusen on the table, which would see him obtain a €100 million release clause for 2026 and thus prevent a drawn-out saga next year.

Wirtz given ultimatum as Real Madrid consider move

According to Sky Germany, Leverkusen have now given Wirtz a one-week ultimatum to make a definitive decision on his future. The club have also made it clear that they will reject Bayern's approach out of hand if they only offer €100m, as is being rumoured.

Leverkusen are aiming for a fee in the region of €150m this summer and will not permit the Munich outfit to lowball them. They would likely be a bit more flexible in their talks with foreign clubs, but no concrete offer has as yet materialised.

Intriguingly, the report adds that Real Madrid could yet also come in and crash the party. Los Blancos have often been linked with Wirtz, but it was always assumed that they would not actively pursue a deal this summer due to their wealth of attacking options.

However, they have managed to secure the appointment of Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso as their new head coach, and he is evidently keen to bring Wirtz to Spain. Ultimately, though, Real Madrid will only make a genuine attempt at signing him if they can manage to sell Rodrygo.
