Ruben Amorim reportedly believes Manchester United should end their interest in Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap in order to sign a more experienced centre forward this summer.

The Red Devils are set to purchase a new striker during the upcoming summer transfer window, and Delap has emerged as a priority target in recent weeks, largely due to the fact he is available for just €35 million thanks to a relegation release clause.

Man Utd have already held talks with Delap over a possible move to Old Trafford, as per multiple reports, however Amorim isn’t convinced the Red Devils should pursue a deal, despite the fact he has scored 12 goals in 36 Premier League appearances for Ipswich this season.

That is according to transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, who told United in Focus: “There remains a split at Manchester United over their plans for their new striker. Liam Delap has emerged as their top target for their footballing department - with technical director Jason Wilcox convinced that the Ipswich Town striker is the best option for the club.

“However, Amorim and his coaching staff believe that a ready made number nine would be the better route for them to take as a team.”

Delap only has one season of top flight football under his belt, and Amorim is eager for Man Utd to sign a more proven option as he looks to guide the club back towards the upper echelons of the Premier League table next year.

Liam Delao told to reject Man Utd

Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged Delap to snub interest from Man Utd this summer due to the pressure he would face at Old Trafford.

“I don’t think Delap should go to Man Utd,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“What happened to [Rasmus] Hojlund, sometimes when you’re going from a team who have been relegated - I know Man United are 16th, but they are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the eyes and ears on them.

“I think that’s such a big step. I know people might say it’s not in terms of league position, but Man United are a monster.”

Carragher added: “I do [think Delap is an upgrade on Hojlund], but I almost think that next step should be Everton or something.”
