Manchester United are set to be caught in the crossfire of Florian Wirtz's transfer to Liverpool.

A deal to take the Germany international to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen has accelerated dramatically in recent hours, such that an official announcement for the move could come within the next few days.

Fabrizio Romano says that Wirtz has been attracted to Liverpool thanks to their promise of a 'quick' deal, and the ripples from this move are set to be felt at Old Trafford.

This is because Bayern Munich are shifting their focus onto other targets after missing out on their dream signing, with TEAMtalk now claiming that none other than Bruno Fernandes has appeared on their radar.

The Man Utd captain is enjoying one of the best personal seasons of his career, which stands in stark contrast to the misery he has experienced at club level. Languishing 16th in the table and having lost the Europa League final, Man Utd are at the lowest point in their modern-day history.

Bayern want Fernandes

Fernandes has already announced that he is not actively looking to leave Man Utd, but that he may have no choice if he feels the club can't match his ambitions.

The Portugal international has a lucrative Saudi offer on the table, but he has been told that he needs to make a decision before the week is out. With Fernandes yet to respond, it seems unlikely that he will head to the Middle East this summer.

However, Bayern could now offer him the chance to remain in Europe and compete at the highest level. According to the above-mentioned report, the Bundesliga champions have requested a meeting with Fernandes' camp to discuss a potential move.

There were already rumours of purported interest in Fernandes last summer, but precious little ultimately came of it. Bayern are keen to make their team younger and, according to German media, are focusing more on wide players now, so this new speculation will likely remain just that.
