Liverpool are ready to have a big summer in the transfer market and appear to be closing in on their first major piece of business.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave Anfield was taken out of the Reds’ hands, but Darwin Nunez is ready to follow him out of the Merseyside club with reports in Spain indicating that the striker has already agreed to a transfer.

Nunez arrived at Liverpool from Benfica in 2023 for an initial €75 million, which is a fee since inflated to €85m via bonus payments. The 25-year-old has become the Reds’ most expensive signing ever but after netting just seven goals under Arne Slot this season has grown surplus to requirements.

Cadena SER reports that Atletico Madrid have already held talks with the player and have an agreement over personal terms for a summer transfer.

Although Darwin Nunez has agreed to leave Liverpool, there is no agreement between the Premier League champions and Diego Simeone’s side. This could prove a major stumbling block to any potential move.

Darwin Nunez transfer rumours

Nunez has also been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, where there is the possibility of both a bigger wage for the striker and a greater transfer fee for Liverpool.

Furthermore, there have been rumours that he could go to Napoli and even a suggestion that he could depart for River Plate ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Argentine club denied that they are interested in the former Benfica star.

“River had a strong transfer market in January. Of course we will look for and surgically reinforce certain positions, but that will be when the market opens. Everything that is being talked about is false,” Stefani Di Carlo told TyC Sports (via A Bola) when asked about the possibility of Nunez or Angel Di Maria moving back to South America.
