Chelsea may have edge in Delap race

Chelsea could have the edge in signing Liam Delap this summer as Enzo Maresca bids to bring a new striker to the club.

Delap has a £30 million release clause in his contract with Ipswich and the 22-year-old has been a target for Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle.

Reports had suggested the Ipswich star was leaning towards a move to Manchester United but it remains to be seen whether their failure to secure Champions League football next season will impact any deal.

Delap is thought to prefer a move to a team where he can be a first choice striker, while the presence of Maresca could also tip the scales in Chelsea’s favour due to the Italian managing the striker as a youth player for Manchester City.

Chelsea fearful of Real Madrid Fernandez interest

Chelsea could face a battle to keep hold of Enzo Fernandez this summer due to interest from Real Madrid despite a clear desire to resist any approach for the midfielder.

Fernandez is thought to be a target for Real and the Argentine has previously spoken of his admiration for playing in Spain, while some reports have suggested that there is already a verbal agreement between the player and the La Liga giants.

However, Chelsea have no intention of selling Fernandez and see the player as a long-term part of their future, although the are aware the player’s head could still be turned by interest.

Fernandez is not expected to push for a transfer but Chelsea’s potential failure to secure Champions League football for next season may create a difficult situation if Real Madrid do formalise their interest.

Broja set to return to Chelsea

Chelsea may have an additional striker in their ranks this summer but it is one that they do not want, with Everton rejecting the chance to sign Armando Broja on a permanent basis.

Broja joined the Toffees on loan last summer but injuries have limited the Albanian to just 331 minutes of Premier League action this season, with the 23-year-old failing to score in ten appearances.

Having failed to impress at Fulham last season, Broja has seen his value plummet and Chelsea had been hoping Everton would look to sign their loanee permanently but he is now due to return to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chelsea are desperate to sell their academy graduate but it remains to be seen whether they will generate interest in him or receive a significant fee for a player they have no intention of keeping.

Latest on Chelsea forward search

Chelsea have also been linked with moves for Real Madrid star Rodrygo, with the Brazilian likely to be available for transfer this summer, although the winger may cost a fee close to €100 million.

Should Rodrygo prove too expensive, Chelsea have also considered moves for Hugo Ekitike of Frankfurt, who may have a price tag of €80m this summer, while Brighton forward Joao Pedro has also been discussed by the club.

Pedro will be allowed to leave Brighton for around €50m this summer and Chelsea are believed to be considering making an offer for the Brazilian forward, although he is not deemed to be their top target.
