Chelsea face Moises Caicedo threat as 'top teams' eye summer deal

Chelsea are set to offer Moises Caicedo a new contract in a bid to fight off interest from “top teams” across Europe.
The Ecuador international has enjoyed a sublime season under Enzo Maresca and the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge are eager to reward him with improved terms after he picked up the club’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards at their end of season ceremony.
Caicedo still has six years remaining on his current Chelsea contract, but the club want to protect their investment by tying him down to an even longer deal.
The Blues extended the contracts of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson last year, following impressive debut campaigns at the club, and they want to follow suit with Caicedo.
That is according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, who posted on X: “Chelsea would like to extend Moises Caicedo’s contract early and on a long-term basis beyond 2031.
“There have been no negotiations yet, but Chelsea have made their intentions clear to the player’s side. Other top teams have him on their radar for the summer.”
What has been said about Moises Caicedo?
Following Caicedo’s display against Tottenham Hotspur in April, Chelsea boss Maresca described him as “one of the best, if not the best, defensive midfielder in the world.”
The Italian added: “He is doing fantastic. The best thing about Moi is that every day he is working serious. He is very humble, very kind, polite. He is a fantastic guy.”

The aforementioned Palmer was also eager to heap praise on Caicedo following the Ecuadorian’s performance during Chelsea’s crucial 3-1 win over Liverpool in early May.
He told Sky Sports: “Obviously when you’ve got [Caicedo] next to you, it’s a dream really.
“Wow. He’s a machine… from the start of the season to now he’s been our best player. Wins everything back always, 100% effort always, everyone loves him.”
