Chelsea are reportedly set to rival Manchester United in the race to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez this summer.

The Argentina international has been tipped to leave Unai Emery’s side following the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign and his situation is being monitored by a host of top clubs across European football.

That is according to Diario AS, who claim that Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and Man Utd have all “approached” Martinez ahead of a possible summer transfer.

The 32-year-old may remain at Aston Villa if they secure Champions League qualification, but he reportedly wants to “fight for titles,” and a summer departure is therefore on the cards amid significant interest in his services.

Argentina publication DSports recently reported that Man Utd have submitted an initial offer to Martinez as they aim to win the race for his signature, although Diario AS have poured cold water on claims that an official bid has been tabled.

Despite this, Martinez is being tracked by a plethora of clubs across Europe, with Chelsea and Man Utd reportedly among the teams eager to agree a deal with Villa.

Emiliano Martinez to leave Aston Villa this summer?

Man Utd are expected to pursue the signing of a new goalkeeper this summer following a string of high-profile errors from Andre Onana since his arrival from Inter Milan in 2023.

Senne Lammens, Lucas Chevalier, James Trafford and Diogo Costa have all been linked with an Old Trafford switch in recent weeks, and Ruben Amorim’s side have now placed Martinez on their radar.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are seemingly yet to decide whether or not to purchase a new shot-stopper ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

Multiple reports have indicated that Enzo Maresca will retain faith with his current options, but the poor form of both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen suggests that Chelsea could opt to bring a new number one to the club if the opportunity arises.
