Martin Zubimendi set for Arsenal medical as Real Madrid miss out

Martin Zubimendi has been given permission to undergo his Arsenal medical, according to various reports.
The Real Sociedad star is on his way to North London despite frequent links with Real Madrid. Earlier on Wednesday, Spanish media once again sought to fuel the speculation surrounding Zubimendi and a move to Spain's capital.
It was claimed that the 26-year-old was 'waiting for a call' from new Los Blancos boss Xabi Alonso, who is known to be a huge admirer of his fellow Basque. However, as FootballTransfers has been reporting for months, Zubimendi is set to join Arsenal.
The Gunners have been keeping tabs on the Real Sociedad midfielder since at least 2023, and they made huge progress in talks with him over the winter, finally managing to convince him to leave his hometown and boyhood club.
Zubimendi has a €60 million release clause in his contract, and Arsenal have informed Erreala that they will match the fee stipulated in his terms this summer.
Zubimendi set for Arsenal medical
According to the BBC and since confirmed by various other top sources, Zubimendi has been given permission to undergo his Arsenal medical in the near future.
Arsenal and Real Sociedad have completed all the relevant paperwork for the deal, and the Euro 2024 is now waiting to complete his physical examination.

If successful, the deal will be closed swiftly by Arsenal despite the fact that all parties are said to be relaxed about the timing of the deal. Arsenal want to bring him in as soon as possible in order to focus on their other priorities.
The biggest objective, of course, is to bring in an elite striker, with Arsenal in talks over deals for Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig and Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP. It is not entirely clear yet which of the two will be signed, but there is an expectation that one of them will arrive.
