Viktor Gyokeres is not paying much attention to the interest from Arsenal and other major clubs this summer.

Gyokeres has been a revelation ever since joining Sporting Lisbon from Coventry for €20 million plus €4m in bonuses last summer.

The 25-year-old Swede has scored an incredible 36 goals in 38 games in all competitions for Sporting, leading to strong interest from a number of top European clubs.

Arsenal, in particular, have been heavily linked with making a move for Gyokeres during the summer transfer window.

But when asked about the interest in him, Gyokeres wasn’t too bothered about it.

What did Gyokeres say?

“It’s a sign that I’ve performed well. But it’s not something I take too seriously, since it’s just speculation. But of course it’s fun,” Gyokeres told Fotbollskanalen.

“We’ll see this summer. It’s not something I know about myself, what will happen. I enjoy Sporting extremely well and feel no stress about the summer coming quickly.”

Gyokeres added: “It is clear that what I have done has attracted attention, but it is not really my focus in everyday life. But of course it’s fun that I have fans who appreciate what I’ve done.”

Gyokeres has also contributed 13 assists this season, suggesting that he is much more than just a goalscorer.

Arsenal are in the market for a top number nine who can scored more goals than current first-choice central striker Gabriel Jesus.

While Jesus has impressed over the last two seasons in his overall play, he has not proved to be prolific enough for a team who wants to win the Premier League and challenge for the Champions League.

Jesus has just 19 goals in 59 appearances for Arsenal, a total that Gyokeres has almost doubled this season alone for Sporting Lisbon.
