Manchester United legend Roy Keane has issued a savage response to Virgil van Dijk after the Dutchman claimed Erik ten Hag’s side are “buzzing with a point” at Anfield.

Liverpool were expected to show their dominance against the Red Devils, but they were unable to break down a resolute Man Utd backline and the two sides played out a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon.

The result leaves Jurgen Klopp’s team second in the Premier League table, one point behind Arsenal, who claimed top spot following their 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Although Liverpool only picked up one point against Man Utd, the Reds mustered 34 shots to their opponents’ six, while they conceded just one shot on target and enjoyed 69% possession.

Man Utd’s approach to the game was one that didn’t sit well with Van Dijk. After the game, the Liverpool captain told the media, as per BBC Sport: “There was only one team trying to win the game but unfortunately it did not happen. We were superior in all aspects.

“They were hoping to hurt us on the counter and they are buzzing with a point.”

In the post-match press conference, his manager Klopp also added: “I can't remember such a dominant performance against Man United.”

What has Keane said?

Following Van Dijk’s comments, Keane replied to the Dutchman on Sky Sports, saying: “He needs to remember Liverpool have only won one title in 30 years!”

The one title that Liverpool have won in that time frame is the 2019-20 Premier League, which is the only time since 2016 that Manchester City have not emerged victorious.

Keane himself won seven Premier League titles during an illustrious career at Man Utd that spanned 13 years.

In addition, the Irishman also won the FA Cup and the Community Shield four times each, as well as one Intercontinental Cup and one Champions League at Old Trafford.
