Former Liverpool star pleads guilty to assaulting girlfriend

Former Premier League player Jordon Ibe has pled guilty to assaulting his girlfriend at an appearance in court.

Ibe, who represented the liked of Liverpool and Bournemouth in the top-flight, was fined and sentenced to community service after it was determined that he pulled a braid out of the hair of his ex-partner. The attack happened to Amie Mayson outside her home in Lambeth, south London, in December.

The footballer changed his plea to guilty, having denied the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in March.

In court, Ibe said: "I made a serious mistake. I understand it is wrong. I am genuinely remorseful. I've had to look at myself in the mirror. I cannot change what I did but will take responsibility for what I do next."

He was given a 12-month community order by Magistrate Brij Kalia. As part of the sentence, he must complete 80 hours of unpaid work and take part in 27 days of rehabilitation activities, with a £764 fine included in the sentence.

Mayson said it had a "significant impact" on her "both physically and mentally" in a statement read to the court.

She said despite remaining "feelings of fear", she felt "compassion" for Ibe, concluding that forgiveness had been part of her "healing journey".

Ibe was highly-rated at Liverpool and went on to make more than 50 appearances in all competitions before moving to Bournemouth in 2016 for a club-record fee of £15 million.

However, Ibe’s time at Bournemouth was filled with inconsistent displays and injuries and the England under-21 international was eventually released at the end of his contract in 2020.

The winger featured for Derby in 2020 before moving to Turkey; however, he failed to make an appearance there and then joined Ebbsfleet after more than a year out of the game.

He would go on to play for Hayes & Yeading United, Hungerford Town, Sittingbourne and Lokomotiv Sofia.
