Manchester United continued life without Jadon Sancho on Wednesday with a 4-3 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, with no apparent prospect of the 23-year-old returning to the fold.

Sancho has been frozen out of first-team affairs by Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag after refusing to apologise for a social media post in which he claimed he was unfairly being made a “scapegoat” for the club’s problems.

Previously, Ten Hag had revealed the player had been dropped from a Premier League loss to Arsenal for failing to come up to standard in training.

The situation appears to have hit an impasse, with rumours rife that Man Utd will offload the former Borussia Dortmund winger as soon as possible.

A return to the Bundesliga side has been one possibility touted for the attacker, but according to Sport Bild, “Sancho is not currently an issue” for Dortmund.

Barcelona want Sancho deal

Barcelona, though, are “suddenly close” to Sancho, with the Catalan side seriously considering a move for the England international.

Barca’s lack of financial power, though, is noted, with the club unable to raise the €50 million that would be required to push through a permanent sale.

A loan, though, is described as a “dream scenario” for all parties.

Sancho could return to playing again and would help Barcelona in their quest for titles this season, and this in turn would help Manchester United, who could either welcome him back or, alternatively, hope he would enhance his value during a temporary stint at Camp Nou.

First reported by Sport, even this could be a difficult transaction for Barcelona to negotiate given the financial restrictions currently on their wage budget, which have forced them to shop significantly for free agents in recent seasons.
