Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag finds himself in an increasingly uncomfortable position at Old Trafford after watching his side lose 3-2 to Galatasaray at home in the Champions League.

Despite Rasmus Hojlund twice putting the Red Devils ahead in that encounter, scoring the second after 71 minutes, Ten Hag had to watch as the Turkish side netted three times to claim an unexpected win. It leaves Man Utd bottom of their group, pointless after also losing to Bayern Munich.

It is the continuation of a miserable start to the season for Ten Hag, who has seen Man Utd lose four of the opening seven Premier League matches.

Ten Hag enjoyed a solid inaugural campaign, where he led the club back into the Champions League , but it has since gone sour.

There are concerns that the coach has been given too much license where the transfer market is concerned, with the likes of Antony, Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund still yet to live up to their price tag, albeit for some they have only featured in a handful of minutes. Ten Hag has been utilising the signings of some of his former players and this method has yielded mixed results so far.

Ten Hag is contracted until 2025 at Old Trafford, while he is on a £9 milllion per year contract, with a weekly wage of £175,000 a week. This means that if Man Utd were to sack him, it would cost around £15m in total, given that’s when his contract ends. There may even be further fees, such as compensation and severance costs attached to the contract, which would make the sacking even more expensive.

Sacking the coach would also mean that the new face would have to work with a number of the former Ajax man’s players, all of whom are on bumper contracts, some even signing as recently as this summer. If Ten Hag is unable to get the club ticking in the right direction, it promises to be another financial problem for the Man Utd board.
