CONFIRMED: Man Utd turn to Gravenberch after being priced out of Amrabat move

Manchester United have turned their attention to Ryan Gravenberch after having to move away from Erik ten Hag’s top target, Sofyan Amrabat, FootballTransfers can confirm.

The club are exploring a loan for the Bayern Munich player, we are told - while Liverpool also have an interest in the midfielder.

We are informed that, at this point, Man Utd are not able to afford Amrabat after so far failing to move on Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek.

The have been a number of issues relating to each player’s departure - namely their high wages and the money owed to them - and so now the club have had to contend with the loan market to ensure that they get Ten Hag the player he wants to feature alongside Casemiro.

Gravenberch would represent another former player of Ajax - and at this point, we have learned that he favours a move to Old Trafford over Liverpool.

However, a sticking point is that the Reds would be able to pay outright if Bayern did change their stance and let him leave permanently, whereas Man Utd can only afford a loan or a loan with an obligation to buy.

Both have made proposals to the player and it will be about thrashing out a deal with his current club, who would be more than happy to allow a saga to unfold for the man they paid a modest £17million for.

Gravenberch in search of game-time

Gravenberch, who was an unused substitute in the German Super Cup defeat by RB Leipzig and in Bayern’s 4-0 victory in the opening game of the Bundesliga season on Friday, is after game-time to provide him with a chance of being selected in the European Championships next summer for the Netherlands.

The youngster broke through the ranks at Ajax under Ten Hag and we understand that he wants to work under the Dutchman again.

He won three Eredivisie titles during his time in Amsterdam and won the Johan Cruyff Trophy for being the country’s best under-21 talent in 2021.
