Though personal terms are no longer a problem for Arsenal with regard to the Rice deal, there are potential issues to get the transfer over the line.

The Gunners have not reached an accord with West Ham over the player’s transfer fee yet, while FootballTransfers understands that Rice, although eager to move to the Champions League side, also wants to see the club where he has been since he was 14 adequately compensated for his departure.

This could open the door for the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool or Bayern Munich to make a late hijack attempt for the player.

West Ham's finances and Moyes' future

As for the Hammers, they are concerned with ensuring that they have a good enough side next season and can challenge for the European places.

It is thought that they don’t actually need as much money as they are asking for in the Rice negotiations - they are financially in a very good place due to an influx of cash paid into the club that was owed to them, as well as investment from their owners. We are also told that West Ham will take players plus cash for Rice if a potential suitor is not able to pay the full amount.

Meanwhile, there was a worry among some members of the West Ham board that head coach David Moyes wasn't the right man to take the club into another Premier League season.

But things have changed recently after a good end to the campaign, reaching the UEFA Conference League final. We hear Moyes will be given much more of a say in things off the pitch next term, especially when it comes to recruitment.
