Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is a player that Liverpool have coveted for months in the transfer market, with manager Jurgen Klopp reportedly harbouring a “love” for the player.

Amrabat, who plays his club football with Fiorentina, has been one of the outstanding players at World Cup 2022, leading Morocco into a quarter-final with Portugal on Saturday.

It was reported by Corriere dello Sport that Liverpool’s interest in the player is significantly advanced while FootMercato states that manager Jurgen Klopp even has a meeting planned with the midfielder after the competition.

But Amrabat’s camp have now issued a come-and-get-me plea to PSG.

“The World Cup is worth the same spotlight as the Champions League and he’s standing in it,” Nordin Amrabat, who once played for Watford, told L’Equipe

“He would suit PSG very nicely. Imagine him playing with Marco Verratti!

“So Nasser Al-Khelaifi, if you read my words, sign my brother!”

’He thought he was a sexy player

Nordin went on to describe how Sofyan’s game has improved the more he has simplified it.

“When he was young, he was the No.10. he thought he was a sex player and liked to caress the ball. He idolised Zinedine Zidane, Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

“When he was 15 and I was already professional, I told him: ‘You have to have high intensity.’ He started working on that, sprinting, footwork to be faster, weight training to muscle up. He changed references, watching Yaya Toure or Thiago Motta.”

This sentiment is echoed by Morocco coach Walif Ragragui, who reportedly told him before a warm-up match: “Why are you taking 12 touches of the ball? One or two touches, no more, after you win the ball back and you’ll see where you end up, Sofyan, at one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

Liverpool are certainly watching, but the question is: are PSG?
