Christian Pulisic’s goal for Chelsea against Wolves may just have been a turning point in his career at Stamford Bridge.

It’s been an almost impossibly difficult season for the US international attacker. He struggled to win game time under Thomas Tuchel and publicly criticised the former Borussia Dortmund and PSG head coach.

This was the background as transfer speculation rumbled during the summer transfer window. Manchester United were linked with him briefly, but it is interest from Juventus that has most persisted. In particular, this is thought to be driven by a close relationship with Juve midfielder Weston McKennie.

But there is further interest from the Premier League from Leeds, meaning that a move to Italy is no formality.

Prior to Chelsea’s Champions League win over Milan in midweek, Premier League legend Thierry Henry had a pointed message for Pulisic.

Speaking to CBS Sports, Arsenal’s all-time leading scorer said: “'At one point you're gonna have to bring something on the table.

“How many managers are not going to trust you? It's going to have to be you at one point. So find a way.”

Now maybe Pulisic is doing just that after he was handed his first start under new manager Graham Potter in what proved to be a 3-0 stroll against a lacklustre Wolves side.

There were signs of rust in the early stages of the game as he passed up a couple of good opportunities, but by the time he worked Chelsea’s second goal brilliantly, he was getting back to his best level. It was the first time he had scored in five months.

Now Pulisic’s career enters a crucial five-week stage in which he has the opportunity to win over Potter and prove that his future lies at Chelsea.

Of course, this will also be up to the American, who is likely to receive offers again in January following the World Cup, but if he is to leave, surely it is better that he does so without being huckled out the door?

Don’t expect the transfer rumours to go away yet, but Pulisic is showing that he’s not finished at Chelsea yet.
