Manchester United are keeping tabs on the situation of Antoine Griezmann ahead of a possible transfer, as the club see him as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Over the summer transfer window, Ronaldo made it clear he wanted to leave Manchester United, with the desire to compete for trophies and play Champions League football in the final years of his career.

There were links for him to various clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Bayern Munich, but a move never materialized and he ended up staying at Old Trafford.

It’s unclear how much longer he will stay at Manchester United, with the forward having the chance to leave in January, but the Red Devils are planning for the future anyways.

Man Utd looking at Griezmann possibility

Ronaldo has started just one league game since Erik ten Hag took over as head coach – a 4-0 defeat against Brentford – and it’s clear he isn’t fully suited to the manager’s plans.

As a result, Manchester United may be looking at Griezmann, who is on loan at Atletico Madrid from Barcelona, but that situation is complicated as well.

Diego Simeone’s side are obliged him to sign him permanently if he plays 50% of the matches for which he is available and that has been a controversial story this season.

Griezmann has come off the bench in most matches this season, playing less than 30 minutes, and he’ll want more regular game time to avoid any frustrations, something he may get at Manchester United.

It’s believed that Simeone is fine with following club orders and continue playing him for less than 30 minutes in each game, which will only bother Griezmann further.

Griezmann has been linked to a move to Manchester United in the past, including in 2017 and 2018, when Jose Mourinho was manager, but a transfer never happened and he remained in the Spanish capital.
