Robert Lewandowski’s move to Barcelona appears to be on the brink of collapse and recent reports suggest that the Poland international is now of the attention of Manchester United.

Lewandowski has his heart set on a move to Barcelona to play under Xavi, with just a year left on his deal with Bayern Munich.

But The Sun now report that the Bundesliga star is now being watched by the Red Devils and that they will propose a deal that is similar to the one they gave to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The publication also states that the Premier League giants are not put off by the £400,000-a-week fee he has demanded and that club is looking to take advantage of the fact that Catalans need to sell some of their highest earners, consequently delaying their move for Lewandowski.

Ronaldo factor

But though such a player certainly falls into Man Utd’s repertoire, the Ronaldo factor means that this transfer is a non-starter.

The Portuguese superstar has one year remaining on his deal and despite the club missing out on Champions League football, the club's top-scorer from last season has opted to remain.

Indeed, the presence of Ronaldo means that this one is very tricky to see coming to fruition. Erik ten Hag has already offered his support to the attacker, saying that he wants to build the attack around the player next season.

Bringing in Lewandowski on an obscene wage in a position where they already have Ronaldo makes no sense at all.

WHO ARE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD?

The two are near enough the same - they are prolific goalscorers who seldom press or carry the ball or generate xA. Arguably interchangeable, Man Utd have zero need to bring in another out-and-out goalscorer on a large wage and who is in the twilight of his career.

The attacker, at 33, is four years younger than Ronaldo, while nothing suggests he’s in danger of slowing down any time soon. Last campaign he netted 57 times in 55 games for the Bavarian side.
