Laimer issues transfer update amid Man Utd and Bayern rumours
RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer has been linked with a summer transfer to both Manchester United and Bayern Munich, and the 24-year-old has now spoken out on the reports.
Austria international Laimer has been a star performer for the Bundesliga side as they have established themselves in the top three of the table while also reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League.
With Manchester United set for a summer overhaul, he has been linked to the Old Trafford side, having previously worked with interim boss Ralf Rangnick, who will become his national team manager in the summer.
Similarly, Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann’s history with RB Leipzig means that he is being linked with the Allianz Arena club.
Laimer on transfer rumours
Asked by Sport Bild where he will play next season, he said: “As of now, in RB Leipzig. I have a contract until 2023.
“It doesn't make sense to hold talks during this decisive phase of the season. That would bring unrest. I'll play the season until the end then will think about my next step. I'll turn 25 in May and have enough experience to make such decisions clearly.”
He was then asked about an approach that Bayern made for him last summer.
“I'm loved in Leipzig. Things weren't advanced and the move didn't happen. I'm over it,” he replied.
Equally, he has not been in touch with Nagelsmann to congratulate his former coach on winning the Bundesliga.
“So far I’ve not. But I’ll catch up on it later,” he stated.
Laimer has played 39 times for Leipzig this season, providing five goals and six assists primarily from a central midfield role.
He is just one of a number of players on Manchester United’s summer shortlist in midfield, where the likes of West Ham’s Declan Rice, Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong and Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic have been touted as potential options to replace the outgoing Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
